           5 Basic Fabrics:-

           Silk:

A  natural fibre, a soft fabric with lustrous look that does not contain heat so it is good for hot climates

Silk is an animal textile made from the fibres of the cocoon of the Chinese silkworm which is spun into smooth fabric prized for its softness

2 Main Types of Silk   

1.  Mulberry Silk produced by the Bombyx Mori.  The silkworm larvae produce  the silk if cultivated in habitats with fresh  mulberry leaves for consumption.

2.  Wild Silk e.g Tussah Silk is produced by silkworms feeding purely on oak leaves.

Wool:-

It's the hair of the domestic goat or sheep.

 

Wollen

 

Worsted:-

It's finer yarn which is spun from longer fibres which have been combed to be parallel.

 

Cashmere:-

It's the hair of the Indian cashmere goat.

 

Mohair:-

It's the hair of the North African angora goat.

 

Angora:-

It's the long thick soft hair of the angora rabbit.

It can be mixed other fibres such as nylon for effect.

BAREGE:- Gauzy fabric of silk, cotton, wool or worsted

It's a very light fabric, fine soft sheer fabric of plain weave; cotton or linen.

 

BAYADERE:- Fabric with horizontal stripes in strongly contrasting colours

It's is a durable cotton piled fabric with vertical ribs.

It's a coarse drapery and towelling fabric.

CREPE:-

It's a light crinkled fabric.

 

CREPON:- Heavy crepe fabric with lengthwise crinkles

CRETONNE:- Heavy cotton or linen cloth

CRIN:- horsehair fabric

It's a horsehair fabric.

 

CRINOLINE:- Stiff flax or cotton fabric 

CUBICA:- Fine unglazed fabric like shalloon
